How to create a password reset disk in Windows 7

Windows 7 is a version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs, and media center PCs. Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009, and reached general retail availability on October 22, 2009, less than three years after the release of its predecessor, Windows Vista.

When you protect your Windows 7 user account by assigning a password to it, you have the option of creating a password hint. Windows 7 displays the password hint if you enter an incorrect password. If you didn’t save a password hint, or if you can’t remember the password even with the help of the hint, you can reset your password—but only if you have created a password reset disk. You can create this disk on either a USB flash drive or a floppy disk, but not on a CD or DVD. Don't think you will ever lose or forget your password? It might sound unlikely, but it can happen, especially in an environment that requires you to change your password on a regular basis. Creating a password reset disk is a simple precaution that might save you a lot of grief.

Here are the steps for you:

1. Connect a USB flash drive, or insert a disk into your computer's floppy disk drive. For this tutorial I am taking USB flash drive.
2. In Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety, and then click User Accounts. Then in the Tasks list, click Create a password reset disk.

The Forgotten Password wizard starts.
